Welcome to your Simply Cycling Slovenia “Wine & Water Route”! This was the first tour I ever created — and still the reason guests keep coming back. You’ll arrive in Banovci, a peaceful spa village in eastern Slovenia, where your bikes await, cleaned, oiled, and ready to roll. After a short briefing and bike fitting, relax in the nearby thermal spa just 20 metres from your accommodation. The healing waters are the perfect way to begin your cycling holiday.

Your adventure begins with a gentle ride through the rolling farmland of Prlekija, crossing the Mura River into Austria. Enjoy a light homemade lunch at Murek Mill Restaurant, then explore the charming old town of Bad Radkersburg — full of cafés, boutiques, and historic squares. It’s an easy day of cycling and a perfect introduction to the region.

We head back across the border through forest trails and the lush green hills of Goričko Nature Park. Tonight’s stay is at a family-run tourist farm surrounded by vineyards. You’ll enjoy home-cooked food, local wine from grapes grown just outside your window, and the warmest Slovenian hospitality. It’s a peaceful night beneath the stars — pure countryside magic.

Today we continue through the rolling landscape of Goričko, dotted with castles, orchards, and tidy villages. Crossing into Hungary, you’ll notice the scenery shift — smaller farms, wide open meadows, and tranquil forests. Tonight’s accommodation is a countryside club with a sauna, jacuzzi, and swimming pool. After dinner, try a glass (or two) of rich Hungarian wine.
Back through Slovenia, today’s route takes you toward Bukovnica Lake, a serene spot surrounded by energy points known for their calming effects. We’ll also visit Slomškov Mill House — our Simply Cycling Slovenia base — to see the restored historic mill. Your evening stop is a spa hotel in Croatia, where natural hot springs soothe every tired muscle.

We ride through the famous Jeruzalem wine hills — a patchwork of vineyards and viewpoints that rank among the most beautiful in the world. The holy name of Jeruzalem, its energetic spirit, and its top-class white wines make this a cycling paradise. Stay overnight at the Jeruzalem Hotel, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. In the evening, join me for wine tasting in one of the region’s oldest cellars — if you buy me a drink, I’ll tell you the story behind the name Jeruzalem!

Our final cycling day begins among the vines of Jeruzalem’s wine trails, then descends gently to the Mura River. We cross on a wooden ferry powered only by the river’s flow — a true hidden gem that’s been run by the same family for generations. Tonight we stay at Firbas Holiday Farm, where Bojan and his family serve wonderful homemade food, pear juice, and warm smiles. A perfect finale to a week of cycling, laughter, and friendship.

After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye — or perhaps not yet! Many guests choose to extend their stay or plan their next adventure. As we say farewell, the question I always hear is, ‘Where next, Paul?’
